Heating law on the brink: Should you quickly apply for funding now?
Friedrich Merz wants to overturn the heating law. Should you quickly order a heat pump to take advantage of the subsidy, which may soon be abolished?
Up to 70% subsidy, total volume limited
The KfW supports the switch to renewable energies with up to 70%, especially for families. In total, more than 16 billion EUR were available in the subsidy fund in 2024.
This subsidy is initially available only as long as the allocated budget is not exhausted. It is unclear whether and how the budget will be replenished afterward. So acting quickly is worthwhile.
Apparently still enough subsidy funds available
“All legal obligations will be met. I cannot give you an exact amount at the moment, but the funds are sufficient.”
This was the response of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs in February 2025 to the “Spiegel,” which inquired about the remaining funds in the subsidy pot for the heating law.
Subsidy likely won’t be stopped abruptly
Experts expect that the subsidy will continue for a while if the heating law is overturned.
In this sense, it would likely still be possible to apply for a subsidy even if the application process has not yet begun.
Act now if a subsidy application was already planned
To be on the safe side, subsidy applications should be submitted soon. Once approved, subsidies are expected to remain secure. In January 2024 alone, just over 20,000 applications were submitted. By comparison, a total of 227,000 approvals (not just applications) were granted throughout 2024, including nearly 55,000 in December 2024.
